FLEX//FRACTURE

Performance documented in two-channel video installation, 3 minutes 5 seconds, 2023

FLEX//FRACTURE compares the materiality of glass cane to the flex of human bone. This work relates to the story of a man thrown around in the wind of a tornado and falling, but suffers little to no injury on impact due to the flex of his bones. The materials of both glass cane and human bone are generally perceived as rigid and unmoving, while in reality containing a surprising amount of flex and movement in their own strengths. The artist exploits this surprising tension of the material, capturing an individual line bending itself until it reaches its breaking point. The resulting work highlights the beauty of the resisting forces against fracture, and the explosive outcomes of built up tension in flex.
