CELLULAR BODY
Neon, Latex fabric, plywood, wooden dowels, sculpted glass, 36in x 40in x 3in, 2022
Cellular Body documents the formation of skin cells under a microscope fabricated into a neon, graphic wall installation. In medical research and dissemination, the microscope slide is stylized and “translated” for simplified reading and understanding to the viewer. This work incorporates neon; a hyper-graphic, stylized medium as a presentation on the ‘flattening’ of the general public’s common medical understanding of published imagery. Cellular Body addresses the dimensionality of the smallest structures of our bodies, and the formal tensions of graphic representation.
